Some people use the Post function to write a journal. They do so by sending posts to their own accounts.

I am writing this post to myself to check if it works.

Edit: It works! This is great! It's going to help me learn how to type faster.

A few things about me: My name is Deimos Stella. I am a scholar of The East and I can play the flute. I am 36 years old and a Dispater Tiefling. But I also have some Aasimar ancestry. It made my life difficult, because most tieflings are weary of people with Aasimar traits. I came to Chult because my older brother sent me to investigate. our instrument crafter received a suspicious letter from the consulate. They were offering him a job and a place to stay. Jupiter usually obliterates whoever tried to take away his pawns, but he's not stupid. He doesn't know anything about Chult, so he sent me to gather information.

I arrived a month ago.

People here are nice. An officer found me in the jungle and brought me to their consul. I immediately realised he's deaf but I pretended not to notice. This is a valuable weakness. It could be even fatal. There is a language that is silent. They "speak" it by using hand gestures. It's called Chultan Druidic and it is usually being used by hunters in the jungle to communicate from high distances without alerting prey. Some soldiers also know it and use it on the battlefield to avoid having enemies hear them. Fascinating. But I doubt they would be willing to teach it to a foreigner.

They gave me this house. It's way too big for one person, but it was the only one they had free. They told me that they might bring roommates later on, or move me to a smaller house if one is freed. Apparently this building used to be a sort of slave barn. Tens of slaves would have been locked in those small rooms and people would come here and browse them like they were products to buy. You had a room for females, one for males, one for children, one for eggs, and so on. After they abolished slavery they refurbished it into a communal living space, where each person had a bedroom and you share a kitchen, a living room, a bathroom and a machine.

It's been a week since I wrote. I'm not as consistent as I would have liked. Oh well.

I met this girl, Roxanne. She's uh... she's something.

But I learned many things from her. Apparently she is the first person to have sworn an oath directly to Mahapatra. Under his gaze. Apparently this is a huge deal here. People here don't "pray" they "thank". And they also don't swear oaths. Why? I think it's because they don't know that they CAN.

This god of theirs is really interesting. He intervenes in most matters but he does so from the shadows. People say he is modest and kind. They know it's a dragon, but in their view dragon = god.

GODS! I found out of the second consul's experiment. Some lady told me that he experimented on his husband. That's... gods! There's rumors that he might have coerced him somehow to go through it, but I don't know... Why would someone stay for 12 more years if they were unhappy? I'm sure he could have divorced back then, so why wait until now?

Apparently it's illegal to talk about it though. If officers hear you discussing it you get arrested and questioned. And if you're a foreigner you might get kicked out of Chult. Some guy was publicly executed last week because he tried to rally a protest. He was shouting about "going against the laws of nature".

But there is a legal loophole. You cannot talk about it to anyone, but you can talk to Veritas himself. Apparently, within Chultan law, if you're the one writing a law, the law protects everyone BUT you. Wait, this also means one can legally kill him! Bacuse he's the one who wrote all laws in modern Chult!

But if Veritas dies, all of Chult will collapse. Hmm, this complicates things. Normally if two sides fight, a third could swoop in and take advantage to bring both of them down. But the situation here is extremely delicate. The kingdom isn't something to laugh about. If Jupiter would intervene he might end up having nothing to conquer. Especially if the second consul is dead.

I found someone who is siding with the kingdom. I gained their trust, but of course they're not going to tell me everything now. I'll have to be patient and keep on building rapport.

He told me that they want Mahapatra dead, but that's pretty much public information. Truth be told, it's pretty hard to take back a land seized by a dragon. From what I was told, these rebels are led by survivors of the massacre of 301-EM, when they killed the emperor and his wife, then exiled the survivors to the southern side of Chult. Valley of Lost Honor, they call it on the map. Veritas was the executioner. I'm shuddering as I write. Veritas is very strong and dangerous. People here respect him, and his enemies fear him. I was told that he was on the frontlines of every war. He came in Chult about three centuries ago with Ronen and whispers say that they took over because they were pissed. They were pissed because they settled into Port Nyranzaru only to find out a while later that same-sex marriages were being banned. They wanted to marry, but it was illegal for them to do so. And for that they rallied a rebellion an had the fucking Cultan Empire fall! Insane! Imagine wanting to marry someone so badly you burn down an empire!

Oh yeah, Chult used to be an empire. So, first it was only lisards, then "human" settlers came and enslaved them (they were probably of varous non-reptile speciea, but people here call everyone that's not a reptilian "human" - even I'm a human by their standards!). Chult became a "human"-led kingdom. The indigenous reptilians had their history, culture and deities wiped. Then Sameer and Aarti came and the reptilians saw them as gods. The "humans" killed them, but Aarti had laid an egg. The egg took a century to hatch, but then Leeli emerged. After Leeli was killed, Chult became extremely powerful and started conquering the lands east of it. At their peak they occupied almost the entire southern hemisphere!

Problem was that the population back at the peninsula was dwindling because of people were dying faster than they reproduced, so they banned marriages that could not produce children. Oh, and if a married couple didn't have children for any reason, their marriage would be annuled!

But then these two madlads appeared out of nowhere and managed to burn the whole empire down. After they executed the emperor and empress, they exiled the rest on the family and supporter and then they gave back all conquered territories to the previous owners. Then they changed the entire legal system. Veritas became king, then made Ronen king by marrying him. People see Veritas as a symbol of righteousness because he chose not to keep Chult as an empire and instead choose to bring Chult back to its historical borders.

I've been gathering more and more info. I'm starting to realize what I've been getting myself into and I'm starting to be a bit afraid. This war is no joke...

I've been feeling so lonely lately. All I do is gather information. Sometimes I play music for money, but as soon as the public leaves I'm all alone again. I miss my friends from The East...

I got a roommate! He's a bit of an oddball, but he seems alright. He's quiet but he's pretty friendly and I think we will get along pretty well. Though... he gives me the vibe of someone who is more used to listening rather than speaking.

Later edit: shit, it seems that we both have access to the same machine, and so he read my entry earlier while I was away. This was so embarrassing especially since he immediately confronted me about it. I got pissed and yelled at him, though I don't know what pissed me off more: the fact that he read through my stuff or the fact that he might be onto me... Oh, and apparently each house gets only one machine and there is no way I can restrict his access. Each account is per household, such a shitty limitation. Anyway, I told him to never access the post area again. It's MY journal.
